Wild Swimming Destinations

Wild Swimming is a growing craze for people who want an exhilerating opening to their weekend. Have you considered taking the plunge yourself? All you need is a wetsuit, courage and a willingness to get wet.

Here are the top UK wild swimming destinations:

Gaddings Dam, West Yorkshire

Nestled in the heart of Todmorden with a stunning beach and marshlands to surround it, Gaddings Dam is a great spot to take a dip. The beautiful views alongside the dam are accessed using a longer route or a steep trail that offers a climb to the perfect spot.

Once out of the water and back on land stop off at the Shepherd's Rest Pub for a drink on your return!

Kailpot Crag, Lake District

Located on the fabulous Ullswater, the Kailpot Crag is a regular cliff diving spot (please be careful) making it a great experience for tourists AND locals. Head along a short footpath from Sandwick through an amazing Lake District pine wood and past some swimming bays and out onto the crag. The water might be cold but the Crag is worth it for your next wild swim!

River Dart, Devon

Determined to get in the lengths and push on to hit your goal distance for today's swim? You need to head down to the River Dart in Devon! Enjoy a few lengths along the river and watch out for the steam train in the heart of the Devonshire countryside.

Lower Ddwli Falls, Brecon Beacons

This hidden retreat is a beautiful plunge pool situated at the bottom of the waterfall. The water is fairly shallow which makes it a great spot for beginners. The Lower Ddwli Falls spray water through the trees like a natural shower you never knew you needed.

Goldiggins Quarry, Cornwall

A secret wild swimming spot, spring-fed and hidden inside a grassy mound, the Goldiggins Quarry, Cornwall even has natural diving boards in the form of flat rock ledges perfect for jumping.

From the Hurlers car park you can follow the vehicle track heading north up onto the moors and pass the stone circle.

Fairy Pools, Isle of Skye

The wild swimming at Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye offer crystal clear waters, flowing from the foot of the Cuillin mountains to form lagoons and waterfalls. The mountain spring is seriously cold but refreshing. Make sure to pack your thermal layers!
